Flexible Benefit Plans (also known as a Cafeteria Plan) are a specific type of employer benefit plan. It allows beneficiaries to receive tax-free reimbursements for eligible health care expenses. If you are covered under this type of plan, you can pay for your laser vision treatment with pre-tax dollars. Check with the Human Resource department or the Benefits Coordinator at your place of employment, to see if this benefit is available to you.
Federal Tax Deduction
In addition to tax savings possible through flexible benefits plans, your laser vision treatment may contribute to your earning a federal tax deduction. Currently for taxpayers that itemize deductions, medical and dental expenses of 7.5% of Adjusted Gross Income are deductible on Schedule A-Itemized Deductions. Expenditures on laser treatment may contribute to this. Consult with your tax advisor or accountant to determine how this tax advantage might be applicable to your situation.
